Carrol, Actually, no, I don't think there will ever be enough "left-leaning Democrats" in the next ten years to pass single-payer. If this should happen it would likely be under significantly different conditions than at present with mobilized social movements of the left pushing them to implement such reforms.

However, "left-leaning Democrats" are not like "little green men", they do exist (Kucinich, Maxine Waters, Conyers etc.), although admittedly they are very rare species. And as far as wishes are concerned I would like to see something more significant than "left-leaning Democrats", like maybe a new mass party of the left, or a socialist revolution. How's that for wishes? Sheldon
