but there's nothing stopping open source from charging is there? it's not free as in beer, but free as in speech. cost-free has never been a defining feature of f or o. shit, property figures for both of them. private property anyway. it's a license that you get, not ownership. the ultimate owner is the person who wrote it. who just happens to let people use it under certain terms and conditions.... private property, individuals, owners. it still undergirds the entire framework. i wonder what we'd do in a socialist or communist economy with licenses. would we use them? the owners are society, so why would we need a license? hmmm?
