If you enjoyed Alice Munro, you might like to pick one of Richard Yates' novels up. I just finished COLD SPRING HARBOR. Really, anything he wrote has that Munro sense of quirky. LIARS IN LOVE is a group of his short stories. Most of his stuff is set around New York in the 30s, 40s and 50s.
Also, you've probably already read MOLLOY by Sam Beckett; but just in case you haven't, be prepared to have your black humour bone tickled.
