Furthermore, the problem of a tendency for suicide early in treatment was recognized before the widespread use of SSRIs -- it appears to be a problem with any antidepressant. Apparently it's particularly hazardous with MAOIs, since the drug interactions are such that you can off yourself with a glass of wine.
