Mathias - I never said *knowledge* of technology is what primarily distinguished say, Britain and India, but their access and distribution. Although of course, knowledge is also an issue; good thing Indians are clever enough to be lax about intellectual property norms. Which is why Westerners are now importing cheap generics from countries like India and Brazil. 

Incidentally, Marx was right about India. It is recapitulating the development of the older capitalist countries. India just isn't that poor anymore. It's life expectancy now exceeds Russia! So much for the gains of the October revolution.
