The McLemee essay is great, but I'm kind of disappointed by his lack of reference to West's endlessly entertaining and increasingly unhinged book blurbing (including a blurb for Bob Avakian's memoir: "His voice and witness are indispensable in our efforts to enhance the wretched of the earth."). He's in a class all his own in this arena. Which reminds me of a brilliant idea a friend of mine had recently for a little Internet-based hilarity - the creation of a Cornel West Book Blurb Generator. Just enter your name and a fake book title and Prof. West will be calling your latest work propitious! profound! prophetic! etc. etc. in no time.
