What's really interesting about this is that they started using the coconuts after people started throwing them into the ocean. That is, it's learned behavior.

Octopuses are weird animals. They're solitary, yet have an extremely complicated communication system (maybe evolved from a more social ancestor?). They have an extremely short lifespan, yet are hella smart. They're invertebrates that engage in behavior normally associated with birds and mammals (play behavior, for instance). Weird.
