Congrats, Mitch. But, really, why did anyone nominate or vote for someone who won't be able to attend a meeting?

For too long, the governance of WBAI has been in the hands of people who think their political resumes are more important than knowing something about how to run a radio station or raise money for a nonprofit. The candidate statements are full of claims like "20 years of anti-prison work," but few contain a word about how to turn around a troubled radio station. And then people go and vote for someone like Stewart. Don't get me wrong - it's awful that she's behind bars. But this sort of symbolic politics, where you vote for someone because doing so makes a statement rather than accomplishes anything, is a symptom of a left that's more interested in posing than actually doing anything.
