In Feb. 1983, the employment-population ratio for prime-aged men (25-54) hit what was then a postwar low - 84.9%. Last month the rate hit 83.0%.

The rate for all adults last month was the lowest since May 1986 - despite a female labor force participation rate that's more than 4 percentage points higher now.

At its lowest point since WWII, the overall employment rate hit 57.1% (March 1983). At the pace of decline of the past six months, we'll reach that point next January. (Despite a female participation rate that's 6.7 points higher now.)
