Yeah, but it's often forgotten that the collapse was the only thing that (retrospectively) saved Reagan's reputation among a lot of conservatives. There was an amazing amount of Reagan-hatred on the right toward the end of his term. National Review ran a cover on the INF Treaty: "Reagan's Suicide Pact." Then when the USSR collapsed, they turned around and claimed credit on behalf of themselves and Reagan, pretending none of it ever happened.
