mmm. i've been a dishwasher before. i can't fathom why dishwashing is preferred to union organizing -- even under current conditions!

sorta related, I was walking home one night, past the backdoor of a restaurant where I would generally see the cooks and dishwashers hanging out, smoking. One night, one of them had a drill with an wire brush attachment, using it to scrub off the blackened gunk from the bottom of a frying pan! Lo! what a great idea, I told him. Woulda saved hours of scrubbing with the old greenies and SOS pads.

So look, I can see where new-fangled power tools would make the job kind of interesting. Plus, depending on the restaurant, you can certainly get your hands on superior cuts of meat -- there's a bennie!
