[lbo-talk] The SMB in a socialist economy?

In fact, civilization hitherto has exhibited exceedingly selfless behavior on the part of the vast majority of mankind.* From a left perspective the distinctions between the Soviet Union and the US (one presumed Socialist the other Capitalist) are trivial. Either example feature the same central defect: concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a small irresponsible minority. What we want, in a sense, is much more "self-seeking" behavior than at present. Genuine enlightened self interest would bring the millennium we seek.

Incidentally, I don't think calling for the overthrown of capitalism is quite verbally legitimate. So called capitalism is merely a symptom of lack of empowerment of the masses. I mean I guess we could hide the symptom in some way and carry on as before, as many liberals seem to suggest we ought to do, but this would seem to have nothing to do with sincere leftism.

*I.e., the existence of selfishness (a dubious term to use in these contexts IMO anyway) implies the existence of selflessness.
