I know some people who did a similar occupation of the Israeli consulte in NYC during the Israelie massacres in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in 1982. As I recall, there was some announcement of limited easing of conditions a few days after the occupation of the consulate ended.

The Israeli territory point is because of the diplomatic principle that diplomatic posts are equivalent to territory of the home country. In the Israeli case it is also Jews exercising the Right of Return.
