=================================== Seems to me there is more disenchantment about the system, as you'd expect in times like these - if not directed at capitalism as such, then at the financiers who got them into this mess and increasingly at employers presiding over layoffs and wage cuts and at Congress which is seen as beholden to Wall Street and the "special interests".

But we know that increased anticapitalist sentiment doesn't necessarily result in political motion to the left, especially not when there is a political vacuum as exists today to the left of the Democratic party. If the crisis deepens, it wouldn't surprise me if the timid Obama administration doesn't survive past this term, and disillusioned American voters, especially younger ones hardest hit by unemployment, replace it with a Republican one decidedly to the right.
