I then read (and laughed my ass off all the way through) Sarah Katherine Lewis's Indecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for Hire. Message:

1. Men who frequent sex workers are filthy disgusting pigs who don't feel it's necessary to wipe their ass before they visit a jack shack. Het men do a lot of licking and sucking of other men's ejaculate, which is the only reason they need women: legitimation of the act. :)

Sex work is wonderful (for Lewis), exhibiting a female solidarity Lewis finds nowhere else, something she'd never choose not to do had she to live here life over. *And* it is also Teh Suckage (tm), contributing to the dehumanization of human sexuality by turning men into wallets and women into body parts, each preying on the other. And yet Lewis participates in the industry and perpetuates the problem, not because she has to, but because she wants to. Excellent book, though I thought she could have stopped 3/4 of the way through without losing too much. Though, damn, I don't know if I could have done without her tales of The Relaters (tm) or the story of dancing in New Orleans. Oh well, toss up.

.........

This reminded me that my friend Rabbit-- a former sex worker -- recently announced how much she disliked _Indecent_ which she Siouxsie-astically described as "this unrest."

Moments ago, after reading your mini review, I SMS'ed her for a statement. Unsurprisingly, she's out and about and staring dreamily into the eyes of a guy who, in her words "will be drenched in sweat about three hours from now."

Me: Sweat? Planning a rousing game of quiddich?

Rabbit: Is that what the kids call it nowadays?

Anyway, she's busy. But, she was good enough to forward the following link from her beloved smartphone:

Amazon reviewer jezebelle lee "nicely sums up my feelings" Rabbit says.

As a fellow ex-sex worker and aspiring writer, I am always interested in the perspective of other women in the adult entertainment industry.

The author's perspective definitely reminded me of some of the women I have worked with as a pro domme -- punked out girls who first learn how to be femme when they realize it can earn them some cash, but who really have no passion or natural inclination for the work. She describes some pretty raunchy, degrading situations she gets herself into, seeming to not have any respect for her clients or herself as she performs acts that are completely unerotic and even disturbing to her. It's an us versus them approach that has very little sympathy or understanding for the men. She even describes picking clients pockets while lapdancing them! In my opinion, you get back what you dish out. If you expect sex work to be disgusting, despicable work then it will be. Definitely not my experience with it. But we each have our own story. This one was like rubbernecking a car wreck -- unpleasant but hard to turn away from.
