I gotta agree with Chris here. Freakin' Switzerland has four official languages, one of which you've never heard of.
Germany's got a bunch of mutually unintelligible dialects, and that's with educated city-dwellers. Plus a native Slavic ethnic group you haven't heard of either.
All in the area of a medium-sized state.
