It's not the number of languages spoken around you that is a measure of
"cosmopolitanism" (whether that term is use eulogisticaly or
pejoritively) but the number oflanguages YOU, yourself, speak and
understand and the number of people in your 'group' who share all those
languages with you. Five hundred languages, each spoken only by one
sub-section of the ppulation, simply gives you the equivalent of 500
midwestern villages all gathered on the same ground.,
