I know that. But Time is inherently experienced as cyclic and measurable, and activity as determined by that cyclicity, whether by length of shadow, position of sun in sky (or absence thereof), or numbers flashing on a screen.

If you want to point at an invention that really revolutionized how people organize time (and work), it would be the light bulb.
