[lbo-talk] Review of Badiou's Number and Numbers

i am still very much working through badiou's works. i have logics of worlds but have not yet had time to dig into it. but i will reply off-the-cuff anyway. :) i wonder if space couldn't be thought of here as a kind of container (in the sense that a set is a container -- which of course it isn't, but you see perhaps what i mean). that's all i've got, i'm afraid. a quick flip to the index of _logics of worlds_ reveals only names, so no quick help there.

the intro to the collection _infinite thought_ quotes badiou saying we are trying to "think multiple-presentation regardless of time (which is founded by intervention) and space (which is a singular construction, relative to certain types of presentation)" (from _being and event_, 293). which i think is reasonably in line with my guess above. the intro goes on to elaborate that the effort is to present the ontological *st**ructures* or schemata of ontological claims (which would surely include claims about space and its nature). of course, to make any sense or be at all persuasive, it will have to line up somehow with some relatively intuitive understanding of space.

if there's anyone on-list who's made their way through both _being and event_ and _logics of worlds_, i would be very happy to receive opinions on whether (given that i have read a fair bit of his shorter stuff) it is optimal to start with the earlier work before proceeding to the second, or whether there is not so much to be lost with jumping straight into the more recent one and then going back.
