The policies of reconciliation are popular.  The goal of nuclear disarmament
and thwarting through peaceful means Iran's nuclear ambitions is also
popular.
And not only that Obama is committed to his ideology and his clearly buys
his own brand.

Maybe not "befriend", but it is certainly in the interest of global capital
for Iran to be brought peacefully into the fold.
