[WS:] Except that there was no widespread systematic rejection of socialism as a system by working class or intelligentsia. It was the power of party apparatchiks that was challenged, not the system as such. What is more, that challenge was often based on socialist ideas or rather incompatibility with such ideals. "Systemic rejection" took off when some EE intellectuals smelled the influence - and money - of Thatcherite and Reaganite thinks tanks. But then there was never dearth of intellectuals who for money would "make cunt of their mouth," as they say in the old country.
