Right, but the point still stands: the assertion that there's never been a "truly national social program" is absurd. Medicare+Choice / Part C didn't get passed until 1997, 30 some years after Part A. And I don't believe anyone would fault those advocating "Medicare For All" for not calling for the nationalization of hospitals and turning doctors from private contractors into employees of the state.
