Ehsani is, if anything, too kind to Petras, who has been an embarrassment as a Latin Americanist for some time, his work beyond superficial in the region he should know something about. Ehsani, who grew up in Iran, edits an important journal there, spends substantial amounts of time living there, and has done decades of fieldwork there, particularly in Khuzestan, is "sorely lacking"? In comparison to whom? Someone with no particular knowledge of Iran who likes to pontificate?
