This is the kind of thing I don't like. You are setting up a dichotomy between "the regime" and "the oppressed people," as if the regime somehow was external to society (one reason why I never used the word "regime"). In situations like what we have in Iran, what is going on is not "the regime vs. the people," it is one group of the people with one set of values vs. another group of the people with another set of values.
