That's the sort of puzzlement I feel when people like Doug (someone I listen to carefully) write that Iranians want to "join the world". I don't get it because he cannot really mean that the way I understand it. What does joining the world mean? Surely not [merely] the ability to wear bikinis? In what way are Iranians exclusively not part of the world that the rest of us are?
