Cbc] Also, "theory" is misleading here. Marx had many interesting opinions and analyses of language, culture, ancient history, anthropology, etc. but he didn't have anything approaching a theory. Only his Critique of Political Economy constituted anything like a developed theory.

CB: Marx did have a theory of history since the
breaking up of the ancient communes, as well.
The primary principle of it is:
"The history of all hitherto existing society
is a history of class struggles." That
is the theory of historical materialism.
It's not just an interesting opinion or
vague idea. It is critical to the revolution
to end capitalism.
And in fact the concept of Necessity
related to the concept of Freedom in
Hegel and Engels' sense; and
with some of the characteristics of logical
necessity)
plays an important part in this theory.
The explanation of the role of Necessity
in the theory of historical materialism (science)
shows the theory to be developed. Though
not quite as detailed as his theory of
capitalist political economy
I'll post more specifics later.
