I might have plugged this before, but I don't think it would hurt to do again: Frontline's 60 minute offering "Sick Around the World":

I thought it was better than Michael Moore's _Sicko_, and it's only half as long. The extraordinarily high level of bankruptcies caused by medical US debt is gone into at some length. This is an inconceivable thing to folks the interviewer speaks with in various other Western state-capitalist systems. Additionally, the Taiwanese halth care "Smart Card" at the end really caught my imagination. A Social Security/Medicare Smart Card issued at birth incorporating many of its features seems like it could go a long way towards reducing a lot of bureaucracy and overhead.
