Discussing this under the heading of "collapse" is stultifying and makes most of the arguments simply irrelevant.

This religious tendency runs throughout u.s. histoyr; it periodically enters actively into politics, and periodically shrinks back to its (rather substantial) minority base. It isn't collapsing; it is simply repeating a pattern. ALL 'resistance' groups to 'mainstream' culture, politics, or economics follow this pattern. None ever die; all shrink after a time. There is no ratchet effect in 'gains' made by such groups. They can't build on pass triumphs. This applies to Doug's naivete about building the left through building from local areas up.
