You have to admit, Michael, that at a time when millions of people's retirement savings have been literally wiped out, the fact that the party of the left is able to get up with a straight face and talk about raising the retirement age and cutting retirement benefits *at all* - while simultaneously adding billions to the taxpayers' debt to bail out bank creditors - is pretty amazing. That's the scary boogeyman. I don't know if it's a massive austerity program but it's pretty remarkable. We're all in this together, as Obama likes to say.
