A friend in Turkey writes me the following:

'About the ' wedding massacre ', in fact it had nothing to do neither with honour nor with wedding. It was a carefully planned massacre to resolve some conflict among the village guards themselves over the division of land taken away from a family which was forced to leave their home. The police was aware before hand and probably promised them protection. The plan was to blame PKK for the massacre but it got out. Now the whole Turkey is discussing the issue of village guards whether it should be abolished or not.'

The 'Village Guards' are a local militia raised to fight the Kurdish separatist PKK
