I hesitate to contradict you, since you know infinitely more than I do about movie industry gossip, but this anecdote doesn't seem to jibe with the rest of the anecdotal record. Hitchcock famously wanted to go to bed with Tippi Hedren, and several people have concluded that the reason he tortured her so badly in that climactic scene in The Birds was because she said no. She made Marnie with him the next year, and then refused to make any more films with him because he was so controlling. He was outraged, said he'd ruin her career, and basically he did.

So I don't see how she'd be an option for a third movie. And I'm assuming Mary Rose never got made, so how do we know it would be any good? In short, how do we know Wasserman wasn't actually being a good producer here rather than an evil one?
