[lbo-talk] more on why movies suck

I've been reading some of James Agee's film reviews in The Nation from the late-40s, and he's constantly complaining about the dearth of daring, original films, how Hollywood is strangling creativity, etc. So slagging the dying film industry is nothing new. However, Agee's mini-reviews of minor films are often hilarious.

"'Bill and Coo'. Over two hundred trained birds, complete with neckties, hats, etc., waddle around an anthropornithmorphic community called Chirpendale. By conservative estimate, the God-damndest thing ever seen."

"Tycoon'. Several tons of dynamite are set off in this movie, none of it under the right people."

"You Were Meant for Me'. That's what you think."
