I have sort of mixed feelings. I think the history of "snobbery" that Carrol points to is interesting, especially the historical specificity of his comment. On the other hand, I think Hollywood movies and television junk are a big part of the brain "fattening" (more than "washing") of American masses, using up brain "space" contributing to lack of political consciousness. Anyway, Carrol's comment is interesting on this thread.
