DRR: "Colonialism isn't some unfortunate accident which ended in 1776, or 1947... Its essential mechanism -- unfair, unfree exchange, where the rule of that allegedly free market was enforced by B-52s -- was then perpetuated by neoliberalism for another 50 years."

Somebody: Except that neo-liberalism was only introduced into Libya in 2003, not fifty years ago. Libya may well be the last country to get on the bandwagon begun by Pinochet and Thatcher. Hugo Chavez has a funny way of lining up with countries like Libya and Belarus which are moving in the precise opposite direction as his regime. Anyway, we can state with some confidence that Venezuela will never be anywhere near as socialist as countries like those are, even today, when they're busy reforming themselves.
