[lbo-talk] Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

I agree with Doug and Asad. I too was impressed by Obama. As a person he was impressive; intelligent, articulate, he seemed sincere, he had a self-effacing sense of humour, he showed great rapport with the people around him etc etc.

But, I never, for once, was distracted from the fact that he was going to be president of the United States (yes, I was and I am guilty of generalising about the US president). I am not sorry, only a bit embarrassed (lest I am accused of saying I told you so) to say that I never have expected much from the president of the United States in terms of foreign policy. I wrote exactly that months before he became president. I did not see any chance of him ending the wars any time soon. Again, apologies for self-references! It's not a habit.

Aluta Continua!

Not just black people. I felt the same way having someone named Hussein win an election. His dubious politics didn't feel so important that day.
