Sadly, yes.
At least to some.
To be fair, to a non-specialist, a torrent of unfamiliar terms and precise-appearing graphics creates a scientismic halo which shimmers above even the wing nuttiest pronouncement. (Note, for example, the 'peak oil' scene which is rich with catastrophe chasing doom porn, buttressed by southwards plunging graphs and insider seeming, tech-esque language.)
