what's specifically capitalist is that racialization justifies where you land in the social structure. there's no need to make justification pre-capitalism.

The potential for racialization of white bodies is a lesson found in the research into the eugenics movement against poor whites in the U.S. When you read the documents, what was going on was that they were being racialized. Here is a discussion of Matt Wray's work on the racialization of white bodies in the post-Civil war eugenics era. Wray is a Bad Subjects alum:
