Universities (originally created by churches) were actually created to promote free-thinking, but only within certain parameters.

Right, but universities (like churches, corporations, nation-states etc) were created to serve vested interests not promote free-thinking. It's only be tremendous opposition to their institutional logic that we end up with the small amount of serious debate we actually do (the natural sciences, of course, exceptions for the time being).

We should always try to mitigate the reactionary harm universities do but also not delude ourselves about what they are--what the can hopefully become is another matter.                         _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with your friends through Messenger on your mobile http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/174426567/direct/01/ ___________________________________ http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/mailman/listinfo/lbo-talk
