[lbo-talk] state by state single payer

This stuff is always shocking to Canadians like myself who don't pay premiums or have deductibles, even though our taxes are higher and there are ongoing government attempts to chip away at the system. But nothing like the Massachusetts "public" plan. No wonder the right is able to exploit it. There's always been a leakage of doctors and nurses from here looking for bigger bucks in the States, but nothing drastic. In any case, you're always going to get movement of medical personnel, as we do, from poorer to richer provinces and from rural areas into the cities, creating shortages which can't be effectively addressed for so long as the professional associations are allowed to control supply through licensing restrictions.
