And Daniel Singer was their European correspondent in the 1980s. But that was in the old days when it was worth reading.

Everything that once was good in the old Economist (good writing, concise reporting, comprehensive historical background) is now to be found in the present day Financial Times (put out by the same publisher). The FT is better than the Economist was at its best, while the present Economist is a shallow, stagnant puddle of its former self.
