One does not settle or even, really, contribute to a philosophical
question by defining words. Humpty-Dumpty had a point: a word means what
the user of it wants it to mean. Definitions are of _woreds_, not
'things,' they merely record the various usages of the word.
"Empiricism,' the word, has probably half a dozen different senses, all
correct. Eric's original post argued a philological not a philosophical
point. To argue with Mke (or to support him) one has to accept his usage
of the word.
