In this particular case we can just assume that question is rhetorical.

Sometimes it's in a good way, though! Carrol genuinely does force me to
think a lot. Sometimes a style like his forces you to reformulate things in
a clearer and more rigorous way. Other times it's risibly obtuse. A
crapshoot, like anything else.
