poifect! poifect! poifect! if all the whiners on the list complaining about identity politics would read at least Postones' discussion of Lukacs, you would find out that the focus on the subject of history -- and the importance given to identity formation -- can be traced back to the appropriation of Lukacs' reading of Hegel!

The original identity politics was the identity politics of class throughout much of the 20th century! Get at *that* -- figure out how to eliminate that essentialist reading from so much of the marxist and heavy-user-of-marx left, and then we might make some progress... oops! .. well, something anyway.
