As Tariq Ali said in a great interview earlier this year with Doug, all you had to do was drive past Ahmed Karzai's family holdings and you'd see wall-to-wall poppies.

Knowing the flea-bitten, diseased jackals of the US mainstream media, this story was run because Karzai has now been deemed expendable by the Empire. Looks like the whole colonialist project is falling completely apart.
