I agree with all of this. But the problem lies at both ends. Yes, this type of left is self-defeatingly allergic to meta-narratives; but that's also because the available meta-narratives don't seem credible to them - or to many other people.
Both things are badly needed: political actors who embrace ideas, and better ideas. It's not all their fault.
