I've always wondered whether the capitalist democratic state was often
an agent of class conciliation instead of just direct class rule, as
its portrayed in the Leninist "intrumentalist" view of the state.

CB: This was especially true after the Russian Revolution, and the
threat  to the Western ruling classes  that the Western working
classes might emulate the Marxist-Leninist led Russian working
classes.
