Your strawman. The state (the people forming the repressive apparatus needed to define and enforce laws protecting property), for marxists and in reality, is not "run" by the "[most powerful members of] the propertied class" but by their *employees*. Popular wisdom knows that "he who pays the piper calls the tune." It takes a Sociologist to imagine that the piper calls his own tune.
