Gallup alum David Moore, now an academic at the University of New  
Hampshire, offers this explanation of why the CNN and Gallup polls  
differ on TP demographics:


> Major difference: CNN measured “activists” – people who said they  
> had contributed some money or time to the Tea Party movement, while  
> Gallup and others are measuring those who say they “support” the Tea  
> Party.
> Activists are almost always more upscale and extreme in their  
> demographics than the “hoi polloi”!
