On "emancipatory" , lets define it positively as enablement as well negatively as removal of restraints. Emancipation or freedom is the mastery of necessity.
On necessity, see the fact that we are animals, and if each and every individual one of us does not meet his or her physiological needs, we pass away ( pace Foucault, with no physiological needs). The first human right is a right to a living ( right to life in non-American terminology).We must be alive to pursue music , poetry, videogames in the morning and fishing in the afternoon.
Freedom is premised on to each according to need, to necessity.
Provide necessities, and each individual, little, shrivelled or otherwise , will figure out what their individual wants are ; each individual will find their own inner essence on their own , well maybe with a little help from their friends.
