Of course. I was being polemic (me, no way!). I do find it
interesting though how this complicates things (or maybe clears them
up). There is a real problem, IMO, with a left that in response to
the TP arguments of too much government/socialism argues for more
government or defends the bourgeois one we have. I don't think we can
understand nor alter the way that Obama has undermined the left the
way Doug argues without understanding its relationship to the right.
Here we have a nice example of how US politics forces seemingly
similar complaints- a state acting against the interests of groups of
its citizens resulting in diminishing possibilities for said group to
keep its head above economic water- into opposite camps/corners and in
the process obfuscates the underlying issues. Imagine if the rural
middle income white TP crowd could connect with the urban low income
minority group around the issues that they share (Jacobin). I really
think there are different ways to understand US politics that could
really aid the left. But we remain somewhat stuck in the ideological
dichotomies of our bourgeois society.
By artist do you mean just those that produce art or people with artisan skills like indy computer programmers etc..?
